Central Wisconsin SPECTACULAR (Colby, WI)

Colby, WI had their show choir competition on January 5th, 2019. Which rightfully made it the start of the competition season for pretty much all of the show choir groups that attended. All of the groups that attended were (In order of the program):

I arrive in Colby, WI around 9:30am which wasn't early enough to see every performance because the competition started at 7:30 with the "Showdags" starting out. I arrived in time to watch Eau Claire's "East Side Swingers" (Left Picture) , a group of 34 women, perform their five songs: "Rumor Medley", "Little Secret", "Liar, Liar", "Secret/Lips are Movin' ", and "Go Get It". After they performed, it was Onalaska "Express" (Right Picture), a mixed group of women and men, their five songs included "I'm a Star", "Hollywood", "Here I am", Troublemaker/So What", and "Big Time".

There are two different divisions that compete at this competition, Class A and Open Class. The Class A Division consists of eight different schools and they are, Rhinelander, West Salem, Eau Claire Memorial, Denfeld, Washburn, Bloomington Kennedy, Onalaska, and Neenah. The Open Class consists of 12 different schools and they are, Eau Claire North, Medford, Altoona, Bloomington Kennedy, West Salem, Holmen, Eau Claire Memorial, South St. Paul, North St. Paul, Neenah, DePere, and Onalaska.

Competing order is Class A and then Open Class. When both are done performing for the judges (There were a total of six judges this competition) they have Daytime Awards which is where they give out the awards to, Best Male Soloist, Best Female Soloist, Spirit Award, Best Stage Crew, Brain Freeze Award (Open Class), Brain Freeze Award (Class A), Best Costume Award, Best Choreography, Best Vocal Ensemble, Best Show Band. After all of those awards the announce 3rd place, 2nd place, and Grand Champion of Class A.

Brain Freeze Award (O.C.): West Salem Vivace

Best Choreography: Onalaska Hilltoppers
Best Vocal Ensemble: Onalaska Hilltoppers
Best Show Band: Onalaska Hilltoppers
3rd Class A: Neenah Act II
2nd Class A: Bloomington Kennedy East Side Swingers
Grand Champions Class A: Onalaska Express

After these awards they announce who is performing at the finals for the Open Class (Side Note: At this competition whoever wins G.C. for Class A is automatically put into finals. Finals is where the selected groups will perform once more for the judges and after they perform they will find out the results (7th Place-Grand Champions).

After all of the groups perform they go through each placement of the groups and then the competition is over until the next year.
